For many of you, we're sure this year has contained difficulties and disappointments. The economy has been a mixed bag, with some sectors performing well, and others retracting considerably, while inflation continues. Politically, President Trump has delivered on some campaign promises, but there have also been a number of recent backtracking statements and actions. We've lost friends and mentors with passing of John MacArthur, Voddie Baucham, and the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
It is good to stop and remember that America's first Thanksgiving celebration was not during a time of great prosperity and success. The Plymouth colonists had just lost over half of their people in their first brutal winter.
Almost every family had lost a father, mother, or children to starvation, disease, or exposure. Relations with the local natives were good, but more powerful hostile tribes existed out in the unexplored wilderness… and winter was coming again.
Nevertheless, the survivors organized a day of feasting and giving thanks to God for the blessings that they had received. Despite the crushing setbacks, they still had things to be grateful for, crops to share, and friends to rejoice with. Despite the trials and difficulties, they had a whole New World to build and plant in, and they were confident in the mission they had undertaken.
So, this year, we want to take a break from our Black Friday sale to encourage you to give thanks for the blessings of God.
Psalm 107 describes God's people rejoicing and continually giving thanks, both for the deliverance of God from trouble, but also in the midst of the storm, because even in the midst of the storm, the lovingkindness of God is present.
"Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare His works with rejoicing." Psalm 107:21-22
Ingratitude has an incredible power to destroy real joy, and to overshadow the blessings that we have. So this year, regardless of your immediate circumstances, we encourage you to cultivate gratitude, and resist the ever-present temptation to be ungrateful.
We at T.REX are deeply grateful for the foundations that were laid by the families that started our colonies here, and so many generations that have built and defended this nation, and we are deeply thankful for you.
Happy Thanksgiving!
