Summer might be coming to an end, but for a lot of us, the weather hasn’t quite caught up. So here are a few considerations that can help you carry more comfortably in the heat.
Hot weather and thinner layers can make appendix carry less comfortable and make concealment more difficult. Adding a Backer to your Raptor creates a barrier between your body and the holster, while hockey tape on the grip can make contact with your skin a little less abrasive. For concealment, clothing choice makes a big difference. Darker colors and patterns can help break up the outline of the gun, while avoiding overly tight shirts gives you a little more room to work with.
Moving the gun outside the waistband is another option for hot weather. Carrying an Ironside around the 3–4 o’clock position keeps the gun off your skin, which can make a noticeable difference in comfort. OWB generally requires a little more thought when it comes to clothing, but a loose-fitting short-sleeve button-up provides enough coverage to help mask the outline of the gun without adding heavy layers. There isn’t one perfect warm-weather carry setup. The goal is finding the right balance between comfort, concealment, and the way you actually dress. |
