250 years ago, our forefathers dissolved the political bands that bound them to the nation of England and declared themselves independent, free to form a new government and secure their rights. The battle that followed cost many of them their lives and their fortunes, but they preserved their sacred honor and liberty, and provided many generations after them with the gift of liberty. Today, we can see that over the last two centuries, a number of our rights as Americans have been infringed upon, and a number of our liberties have been diminished. Still, we encourage you to be grateful for the hard work of our forefathers: the great boldness with which they defended their country, and the great care with which they created their new constitutions and systems of government. We wanted to celebrate and honor their legacy by examining just one section of the Bill of Rights to explain its incredible value and importance.
Our forefathers were incredibly conscientious about the traditions their nation had been founded on, and the legal rights that they understood had been given to all men by God. They did not act in ignorance of history, but demonstrated an incredible gratitude for the work that their fathers had done in the pursuit of Liberty. Happy Independence Day! |
