(fig. 6-2) Receiver-Transmitter, Radio RT-348/ARC-54 receives and transmits frequency-modulated sig- nals in the frequency range of 30 to 69.95 mc. The receiver-transmitter unit is a combination double- conversion superheterodyne receiver and trans- mitter. The tuning system, the local oscillators, and tuned RF and IF amplifiers are shared by the transmitter and receiver. The receiver-transmit- ter unit, when used with Control, Radio Set C- 3835/ARC-54, Antenna AS-1703/AR, Antenna Coupler CU-942/A RC-54 (or CU-943/A RC-54), and a microphone-headset, provides two-way voice communications between aircraft in flight and be- tween aircraft and ground stations. In addition to two-way voice communications, the receiver- transmitter unit contains additional circuits that provide homing and retransmit (radio relay) op- erations.
