Each half of a 120-cycle-per-second signal gen- erated by the two halves of a twin-triode square wave oscillator is rectified separately by each half of a twin-diode negative pulse rectifier. The negative pulses (a and b) of voltage are supplied alternately to the grids of the two Adcock r-f amplifiers. These negative pulses in rapid succession cut first the ‘"B" Adcock amplifier, then the "A" Adcock amplifier, out of operation so that at any instant, only one Adcock amplifier tube is operating. The two Adcock amplifiers are connected with their grids in push- pull, or 180° out of phase, and with their plates in parallel. Because the "A" and "B" Adcock amplifier tubes are out of phase with each other, the signal from the "A" tube (1), for example, reinforces the amplified signal (2) from the series-connected, tw0- tube, vertical r-f amplifier stage.
