Section I. DESCRIPTION * General 3 a. APPLICATION. Radio Set SCR-291-A (Di- rection Finding) is a semiportable, visual-indi- cator type of ground station radio direction finder (fig. 1). Azimuth bearings ean be taken on any type of radio transmission within the r-f (radio-frequency) ranges of the radio set. For direction finding the normal frequency range is from 2 to 10 mc (megacycles), but the range can be extended to 20 mc. Simultaneous bearing indications and audio monitoring sig- nals are available over the D/F (direction find- ing) range; any transmission within the 1.5- to 30-me range of the receiver can be monitored. The bearing indicator, radio receiver, control panel, and telephone panel are installed in a ' prefabricated shelter (fig. 2).
