RESTRICTED SECTION I DESCRIPTION 1 . GENERAL a. Telephone TP-9 (fig. 1) is a portable telephone set designed to provide communication over greater distances than those ob tained with ordinary local battery sets. This is made possible by the use of vacuum-tube amplifiers in both the transmitting and receiving circuits. Power is supplied by batteries mounted inside the instrument. Provision is made so that the telephone may also be used without the amplifiers as a local battery set. When using the amplifiers, transmission may be effected in only one direction at a time. In this case, close cooperation of personnel using the equipment is necessary for efficient operation. NOTE: This equipment contains vacuum tubes and must be handled with the care given a fine radio set. b.
