CHAPTER 1 CACHING CONSIDERATIONS Jet. DEFINITION Caching is the process of hiding equipment or materials in a secure storage place with the view to future recovery for operational use. 1-2. OPERATIONAL USES Caches have utility in a variety of operational situations, but three types of situations are particularly noteworthy. a. First, cached supplies can meet emergency needs where personnel may be barred from their normal supply sources by sudden developments, or travel documents and extra funds may be needed for quick escape. b. Second, caching can help solve the supply problems of long-term operations conducted far from a secure base. A third use of caching is to provide for anticipated needs of wartime operations in areas likely to be overrun by the enemy. 4-3. STEPS IN CACHING Caching is a complex operation.
