of the EA-6A Prowler, A6-A Intruder, and precision-guided weapons. The Prowlers became vital to OAS missions by suppressing new threat systems like the SA-2 to provide suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD) for the strike packages. The Intruders provided commanders a true all-weather, day and night AI capability. The introduction of electro-optical and laser-guided bombs (LGBs) aided in economy of force. These highly accurate weapons increased mission success rates while reducing the number of aircraft required to destroy or neutralize targets. Significant technological advances since the end of the Vietnam era have contributed to more effective and efficient capabilities in Marine aviation.
