Section 1. GENERAL 1. PURPOSE This manual is a guide for personnel concerned with the logistics of ordnance maintenance and general supply in the field. It deals with the organization, management, and operations of ordnance maintenance and general supply. This manual is one of four related manuals on the subject of ordnance service in the field. For information on the general subject of ordnance service, refer to FI 9-5. The supply of army ordnance ammunition is presented in FM 9-6. Information on the reconnaissance and disposal of explosive ordnance is contained in FMI 9-40. 2. IMPORTANCE The importance of ordnance maintenance and general supply in the field cannot be overemphasized. The potential fire power and mobility of an army in the field is measured by the state of operative readiness of its ordnance equipment.
