1. Purpose and Scope a. This manual is a guide to the tactical employment of the rifle company, infantry division battle group, and the rifle company, airborne division battle group. b. The tactics, techniques, and procedures described are intended for guidance and should not be considered as a set of inflexible rules. Varying conditions of the battlefield require the intelligent application of the doctrine stated herein. Existing conditions may require modification of specific tactics and techniques in order to achieve optimum results. c. The material contained herein is applicable to nuclear and nonnuclear warfare. d. With few exceptions, the material presented in chapters 2 through 6 applies equally to the rifle companies of both the infantry and airborne division battle groups.
