CHAPTER 1 GENERAL 1. Purpose and Scope This manual is a guide to assist commanders in developing the sections of 175-mm gun M107 and 8-inch howitzer MHO firing batteries into efficient smooth-working teams with a sense of discipline that will impel them to operate effec- tively under the stress of battle. This manual prescribes individual duties and section drills, tests and adj ustments for sighting and fire control equipment, and instructions for the destruction and decontamination of equipment. The material contained herein is applicable, with modification, to both nuclear and nonnuclear warfare. 2. Definition of Terms a. Section. Tables of organization and equip- ment (TOE's) prescribe the personnel and equip- ment which comprise each section of a battery. In * this manual the term section is often used to designate only the personnel required to serve the weapon and its equipment.
