1. Purpose and Scope This manual is a guide to assist commanders in developing the 8-inch howitzer sections into efficient teams that will operate effectively in combat. This f manual prescribes individual duties and section drills, tests, and adjustments for sighting and fire control equipment, and methods for the destruction and decontamination of equipment. The material contained herein is applicable to both nuclear and nonnuclear warfare. 2. Definitions and Terms a. Section. Tables of organization and equipment prescribes the 'personnel and equipment comprising each section of the battery. In this manual, the term "section" is used to designate only the personnel required to service the howitzer and its equipment (figs. 1 and 2). h. Coupled. A howitzer is coupled when its trails 4 are attached to a coupling on its prime mover (fig. 3). G. Uncoupled.
