CHAPTER 2 EQUIPMENT 4. Description a. Radar set AN/MPQ-4A is a mobile, pulse- modulated, nontracking, dual-beam, beam-in- tercept radar. It can be used to locate mor- tars and other high-trajectory weapons, observe registrations, adjust fire, and detect and locate moving targets. The complete set, with its associated equipment, is contained in two trailers—the radar trailer (fig. 1 ) and the power unit trailer (fig. 2). b. The set consists of the radar trailer, an- tenna group, receiver-transmitter group, con- trol-indicator group, dehydrator, and power unit. c. The antenna group, receiver-transmitter group, dehydrator, and control-indicator group are mounted on the radar trailer (fig. 1). This trailer provides a means of transportation and a platform for operation. The control-indica- tor group may be removed for remote opera- tion and remoted up to 150 feet. d.
