These reflected waves cause a large portion of the B-scope to be covered with "clutter" or unwanted echoes. This clutter makes the detection of projectile echoes in the area virtually impossible. To reduce clutter to a minimum in the sector of search, it is neces- sary to emplace the radar behind a hill or ridge, called a screening cres't. The distance from the radar to the screening crest should be between 250 and 1,000 meters. Even though clutter is still being received from the screening crest, the screening crest is close enough to the radar that the B-scope is clear at ranges where enemy projectiles are expected. The angle of elevation to the screening crest should be from 15 to 40 mils. b. Other technical considerations that should be considered in selecting the radar site are— (1) Maximum range of the radar. (2) Sector of search.
