FM 55-65 CHAPTER 2 GENERAL 2—1. Application a. A company or similar military unit starts preparing for its combat mission at the time of its activation. This mission may require actively en- gaging the enemy or furnishing combat service support. Before a unit can perform either mission, it must be transported from its continental United States (CONUS) station to a theater of opera- tions. This movement can easily become compli- cated and confusing unless it is based on careful planning and thorough training. Therefore, training for movement is specified in the Army training program for each unit. Other preparatory actions, though equally important in an oversea or CONUS movement, cannot be economically in- cluded in training schedules.
