This manual is published as a training, planning, and operational guide for unit commanders, staff officers, noncommissioned officers, and other personnel concerned with Army combat service support air transport operations as part of the transportation service under the TASTA-70 (The Administrative Support, Theater Army, 1965-70) doctrinal concept. The in- formation in this manual can be used to facilitate reorganization under TASTA-70 organizational concepts. This manual is a consolidation of FM 55-46 and 55—46-1 (Test). Unit designations and terminology are updated and characteristics of new Army aircraft authorized the units discussed in the manual are added. New chap- ters have also been added covering duties of personnel in the heavy heli- copter company, personnel management and administration, security and defense, and safety.
