C 1, FM 55-15 CHAPTER 2 AIR '¿'Section I. ARMY AVIATION IN THE TRANSPORT ROLE 2-1. General The evolution of warfare has generated a need for greater mobility in support of the Army. Army aviation is an integral part of the trans- portation system designed to provide efficient and effective movement of personnel and cargo. Army aviation units provide airlift in support of requirements of the theater army, field army, corps and division. In addition, Army aviation units are capable of providing airlift in sup- port of a unified or specified command, a mil- itary assistance advisory group or mission op- erating detachment, or a separate brigade op- eration. Because of the high mobility require- ments of today's Army, considerable reliance is placed on the air mode of transportation pro- vided by Army aviation units.
