CHAPTER I GENERAL 1.1 Purpose and Scope a. This manual is both a planning guide for staff and unit officers and a digest of operational data for use as a reference by operators and users of transportation when unit or staff libraries are not readily available. b. This manual gives characteristics of typical transportation equipment and facilities and methods for estimating the capabilities of, or requirements for, transportation equipment, facilities, and troop units. Personnel and equipment data for the modes of transportation and for transportation terminals are presented as well as data for computing requirements for. staff, supervisory, and control activities. Factors concerning administrative support requirements are included. It also contains report formats and examples of orders and standing operating procedures.
