1—1. Purpose and Scope a. This manual provides guidance for comman- ders, staff officers, and other personnel concerned with the employment of the divisional engineer battalions organic to the infantry, infantry (mechanized), and armored divisions (fig. 1-1, 1-2, and 1-3). b. This manual covers the organization, mis- sions, capabilities, and operations of the divi- sional engineer battalions and their components. Coverage is in sufficient detail to guide comman- ders and staffs in the accomplishment of the unit mission. ★c. The material presented herein is applica- ble to— (1) General war, to include consideration of US employment of chemical and nuclear mu- nitions; enemy employment of chemical, biologi- cal, and nuclear munitions; and operations in a chemical, biological, and radiological environ- ment. (2) Limited war. (3) Cold war, to include stability operations.
