1. Purpose and Scope This manual is for the use of battalion commanders and staff, battery commanders, platoon leaders, and fire unit leaders of AAA (AW) (antiaircraft artillery automatic weapons). It covers the organization, reconnaissance, selection, and occupation of positions, communications, observation and early warning, security, logistics, gunnery, and fire control sighting devices of antiaircraft artillery automatic weapons -batteries and battalions. Part one includes battalion organization and tactics. Part two includes antiaircraft and surface gunnery techniques and fire control devices. Fundamental tactical employment principles of antiaircraft artillery automatic weapons units are contained in FM 44-1. 2.
