This manual gives a general description of site equipment and sets forth the duties of crews in handling low altitude ballonet barrage balloons and equipment. b. The text refers particularly to the D-8 balloon, the M1 winch, and auxiliary equipment. The general principles stated herein also apply to handling the D-7, Mk. VII, Mk. VIII, and Mk. X balloons. c. FM 4-108 covered both dilatable and ballonet low altitude barrage balloons. Increased emphasis on ballonet balloons has made it necessary to provide a manual solely concerning them. This manual thus supersedes the data on ballonet balloons in FM 4-108.
