Section I. GENERAL 1. Purpose This manual furnishes guidance in the or- ganization and operations of appropriate ele- ments of the field army in the collection and use of radiological contamination intelligence. 2. Scope The material presented in this manual is ap- plicable to nuclear warfare for the field army and with modification for CONUS armies and similar commands. It establishes the tech- niques and procedures for radiological monitor- ing, radiological survey, processing radiologi- cal contamination information, residual radia- tion calculations, and the operations of the Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Element (CBRE). 3. Definitions and Terms and Symbols a. Definitions. Terms defined in other pub- lications are not redefined in this manual ex- cept those which are particularly applicable to the subject matter.
