RESTRICTED FM 17-60 ARMORED FORCE FIELD MANUAL ARMORED DIVISION ARTILLERY SECTION I GENERAL • 1. PURPOSE.—The purpose of this manual is to standardize training methods, to set forth standards of proficiency, and to emphasize tactical action peculiar to armored field artillery. • 2. GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS.—Tactical success in armored force action depends on cooperative and coordinated effort among tanks, the supporting armored ground troops, and aviation. The armored artillery supports the armored divi sion in the execution of its offensive role in mobile warfare. In executing its general mission the artillery must be pre pared to put down an effective preparation preliminary to an attack, when such is desired. It must follow through with the attack and give timely support during critical phases.
