The purpose of this manual is to outline general methods of training and employing the reconnaissance battalion of the armored division. Tactical employment of the reconnaissance company. is covered in FM 17-20, and that of the tank company in FM 17-32. The subject of reconnaissance in general is covered in FM 100-5 and FM 17-10. b. This manual is intended as a guide only. It is not expected that it will be followed blindly. Rigid application of a fixed set of rules is highly undesirable.
