This Staff Officers' Field Manual is a compilation of principles, pro- cedures, and information to be used as a guide for the Assistant Chief of Staff, Gl, Personnel, of divisions, corps, armies, and administra- tive commands in the field. The duties of special staff officers are considered only in their rela- tionship to the Gl. The detailed duties of special staff officers are published in field manuals and technical manuals of the arms and services. The Gl must modify the provisions of this manual to meet the needs of his ovm particular situation and to conform to the current i'egulations and directives of higher headquarters and the desires of his own commander. This manual'should be studied in connection with the following field manuals : FM 100-5, Field Service Régulations, Operations. FM 100-10, Field Service Regulations, Administration.
