This version of ATP 3-53 updates doctrine to address current and future operating environments through 2030. It incorporates changes from FM 3-0 including multidomain operations, influence as a form of contact, and definitions of conventional and irregular warfare. The publication covers visual, audio, multimedia, and face-to-face and psychological actions (PSYACTs) to counter threats. Building on more than 80 years of psychological warfare (PSYWAR) doctrine, this update expands beyond psychological operations (PSYOP). It now includes the role of the Psychological Operations (PO) Branch and its two primary influence functions: PSYOP and Department of Defense deception activities (DDAs).
