ATP 1-05.05 expands upon FM 1-05, Religious Support, in describing care to the wounded as a core competency of chaplain sections and unit ministry teams. Chaplain sections and unit ministry teams execute this competency for units and commanders at all echelons in operational environments, or Army elements in direct support of operations. While principles and concepts contained in this ATP are transferrable to a garrison or civilian setting, the focus of this publication is the operational environment and training for the operational environment. (ADP 1-01) The religious support competency of caring for the wounded preserves and reinforces the health of the force while simultaneously fulfilling a core requirement for many faith traditions.
