Nylon Developer

Reports To: Product Developer Lead

Location: Onsite – Centerville, TN

Wage: $85k – $110k (DOE)

To design, prototype, and refine soft goods products for high performance tactical applications. This role blends material expertise, hands on fabrication, and iterative problem solving to bring durable, reliable, and user driven nylon products to market.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prototype nylon-based products such as pouches, straps, belts, and load-bearing accessories.
  • Create and maintain CAD models, flat patterns, and technical drawings to support prototyping and production.
  • Select materials, hardware, and construction methods optimized for durability, comfort, and mission critical performance.
  • Create technical drawings, build samples, and iterate based on testing and user feedback.
  • Collaborate with Product Development and Manufacturing to ensure designs meet cost, quality, and production requirements.
  • Conduct field validation for fit, function, retention, and long-term wear.
  • Maintain documentation including BOMs, spec sheets, and revision history.
  • Support continuous improvement in sewing processes, material sourcing, and manufacturability.

Skills Required

  • Technical Skill – Ability to design, prototype, and validate Nylon products.
  • Analytical Skill – Strong problem-solving and data analysis mindset to ensure feasibility and quality.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in soft goods design, industrial sewing, or tactical nylon manufacturing.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Rhino, or pattern‑making CAD tools like Lightburn).
  • Strong understanding of materials such as Cordura, webbing, elastic, hook/loop, and technical textiles.

Product Developer

Reports To: Product Developer Lead

Location: Onsite – Centerville, TN

Wage: $55k – $85k (DOE)

Design, develop, and refine tactical gear products through CAD modeling, prototyping, research, and testing. Ensure designs meet performance, quality, and user needs while aligning with company mission and standards.

Responsibilities

Innovation & Concept Development

  • Generate new product ideas by leveraging emerging technologies, materials, and user insights.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to determine the technical viability of concepts.
  • Explore novel design approaches to enhance product performance and usability.

Technical Validation

  • Develop CAD models, and prototypes to test mechanical, ergonomic, and durability aspects.
  • Run experiments to validate material properties and performance under stress.
  • Document findings in technical reports for cross-team alignment.

Prototyping & Iteration

  • Build and refine prototypes for lab and field testing.
  • Incorporate feedback from engineers, testers, and end-users into iterative improvements.
  • Balance innovation with manufacturability, cost, and compliance requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with engineers and manufacturing teams to ensure scalability.
  • Act as a technical liaison between creative design and production realities.
  • Align product development with company strategy and customer needs.

Nylon Prototyper

Reports To: Product Developer Lead

Location: Onsite – Centerville, TN

Wage: $50k – $75k (DOE)

The Nylon Prototyper transforms design intent into physical, testable prototypes using soft‑goods materials and production‑grade processes, bridging the gap between concept and manufacturable product to ensure every nylon component is validated for fit, function, durability, and repeatability.

Responsibilities

  • Prototype Creation
    • Build early stage and production representative nylon prototypes (pouches, belts, straps, accessories).
    • Translate CAD, flat patterns, sketches, and technical drawings into accurate physical samples.
    • Select appropriate materials, such as Cordura, laminate, webbing, stretch woven, hook/loop, hardware, based on performance requirements.
  • Iteration & Validation
    • Rapidly iterate prototypes based on developer feedback, testing results, and field use.
    • Validate fit, function, durability, and repeatability of each prototype.
    • Document revisions, construction methods, and BOM changes.
  • Technical Execution
    • Operate industrial sewing machines, cutting tools, and soft goods fabrication equipment with precision.
    • Maintain clean, organized workspaces and prototype storage systems.
    • Assist in developing repeatable construction processes that support manufacturability.
  • Collaboration
    • Work closely with Product Developers to translate design intent into manufacturable solutions.
    • Communicate findings, limitations, and improvement opportunities clearly and proactively.
    • Support Nylon Coordinator and Development Team in material testing, workflow improvements, and production handoff.

  • Prototyping & Iteration Skills
    • Fast, accurate prototype construction with attention to detail.
    • Strong problem-solving instincts, able to adjust patterns, materials, or construction methods on the fly.
  • Material & Process Knowledge
    • Understanding of material behavior and limitations under load, abrasion, and environmental stress.
    • Knowledge of manufacturability constraints and production ready construction techniques.
